This is a completely uncensored, back to the Japanese text, completely reprogrammed in a bazillion ways, redrawn and paletted enemies, new enemy sprites, new colored maps, difficulty way increased, new items added, PSI animations changed, new PSI added, enemies are more difficult, and more!

The full list of changes is in the attached ReadMe. This hack's EBP patch requires a special utility , or you can just download the pre-patched version and not worry about patching. If you want to see how this hack is like, check out MegaHarv's videos. This hack's goal was to make Earthbound as close to Mother 2 as possible. It takes care of most of the uncensoring that North America made during the localization of Mother 2. The main game is left intact without modifying any core-gameplay mechanics.

It's meant for mature audiences who aren't offended by bad language and adult themes. Additionally, you can watch gameplay footage on YouTube. This game, which you might think of as Earthbound for girls, is a project that took several years and a lot of work.

Most of what has been changed is character names and the text. Although also thrown in are a few changes in the graphics. Mother: 25th Anniversary Edition aims to make Mother much more enjoyable for both Earthbound fans and those playing it for the first time.

All graphics are redrawn from scratch to be more faithful to the clay models. The overworld has been tweaked to be much less bleak and repetitive. There is more scenery, areas are more colorful and confusing areas like Duncan's factory have been simplified. This hack's goal was to make Mother less challenging, but still quite difficult. Read its included documentation to learn about more changes. Because of the Game Boy Advance not having a backlit screen, games often had colors brightened and washed out in order to make it easier to see.

The story follows Lucas, a young boy with psychic abilities, as he attempts to prevent an invading army from destroying the world. The game's themes include human physiology, renewal, moral fungibility, and dualisms such as nature and technology, and feudalism and capitalism. The game's development spanned twelve years and four consoles, beginning in for the Super Famicom console and then transitioning to the Nintendo 64 and its 64DD add-on before being cancelled in Mother 3 restarted development in for the Game Boy Advance and was finally released in Japan on April 20, Mother 3 was a critical and commercial success upon release.

Critics generally praised the game's graphics, music, and story, but believed that the gameplay offered few innovations to the role-playing genre. A sign posted in the town of Fourside in EarthBound stated that a meeting was in progress for a sequel. It was more than likely a joke at the time, but there was news of a game in the works slated for the Nintendo 64DD not too long after EarthBound's release.

A video and playable demo were unveiled in at Nintendo's Spaceworld Event. A few screenshots, the demo footage, and two music samples are all that we ever got to see of that unreleased version of the game. It was cancelled due to development problems. Shigesato Itoi shelved the game, but he didn't abandon the project. News about the game was slim until the fall of when Itoi started posting about travelling to work on a project on his website.

The place he was going to was the location of development team Brownie Brown. The website, updated weekly, gave glimpses of the game and showed an RPG reminiscent of EarthBound, but clearly a fresh new title. The main character, Lucas, looked eerily similar to Ness, but everything and everyone else seemed completely new.
